People Surprise me!

I’m continuously shocked by the amount of people that connect with me outside of the blogosphere, IRL if you will, over the topics I chose to write about on this lil’ ol’ thang. I get a few comments on the blog and the odd social media like; but it’s the texts, phone calls and conversations in person that always take me by surprise. The veil gets lifted and I get to experience the emotion and inflections in someone's voice as they share with me the struggle they have overcome or continue to endure.

The strength and vulnerability to have those conversations, face to face, is inspiring. To step from behind our screens and connect over our differences and similarities is always humbling. I’m delighted to see that many men are coming to learn that true strength comes from vulnerability. That real confidence is found in our flaws and acceptance of our shortcomings. With that comes an acknowledgement of a need for growth, which is found through reading, counselling and conversation; through the acceptance of others and the receiving of feedback, as just that. Feedback, an offering of help, a rung on the ladder as we climb towards our better selves.
